BENIN CITY – Edo State Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), Civil Society Organisations, and the West Africa Network for Peacebuilding (WANEP)–Nigeria, have pledged commitment to the domestication of United Nations Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS) in Edo State.

The stakeholders met in the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development conference hall, Benin City, to discuss the draft State Action Plan (SAP) and identify additional members for the steering committee.

Facilitator Amb. Barr. Agatha Osieke said that the meeting aimed to identify gaps in the SAP and provide solutions.

In her address, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief (Mrs.) Bisi Idaomi, represented by Permanent Secretary Mrs. Joy Ihensekhien, thanked WANEP–Nigeria for prioritizing the project, which she said was vital for protecting women and girls.

Co-facilitator Dr. Bright Oniovokukor presented the Edo State Action Plan Matrix, identifying insecurity across the three Senatorial district of the state and weak human security, especially for women and girls as top priorities.

Participants gave goodwill messages and pledged commitment to achieving the domestication of UNSCR 1325 in Edo State.
