BENIN CITY – Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the release of the first tranche of a N4.6 billion settlement for 714 former staff of the state’s Colleges of Education in Ekiadolor and Igueben, who were sacked during the previous administration.

On Monday, the Governor directed the immediate disbursement of N1,164,507,285.17 to 682 pensioners from the College of Education, Ekiadolor, and 32 from the College of Education, Igueben, in line with the provisions of the Pension Act.

The payment is the first of four phases designed to clear the entire entitlement package.

In addition, Governor Okpebholo approved the release of N292 million as the second tranche of pension entitlements for disengaged staff of the Colleges of Agriculture in Iguoriakhi and Agenebode, with disbursement scheduled on or before Wednesday.

So far, the state government has released a total of N1.4 billion across the four institutions, a move that brings relief to hundreds of families who had been left without benefits for years.

Governor Okpebholo described the intervention as part of his administration’s commitment to fairness, justice and compassion, while also reaffirming his resolve to reposition the education sector.

He assured retirees and disengaged staff of all state-owned colleges that every legitimate entitlement will be fully settled.
