BENIN CITY: The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has granted employers of labour a two-week extension for the filing of Annual Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax returns.
The shift in deadline from the statutory deadline of January 31, 2026 is to allow employers additional time to complete their submissions.
In a statement, the Head of Corporate Communications at EIRS, Courage Eboigbe, said the extension was approved to help employers adjust to recent tax reforms.
He explained that the grace period would enable organisations to properly align their filings with the provisions of the Nigerian Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025.
The revenue service directed all employers to file PAYE returns for their employees through its official digital portal at https://paye.eirs.gov.ng.
It noted that submissions will only be regarded as valid if they are duly signed and stamped by the employer or an accredited tax agent and fully compliant with Section 33 of the NTAA 2025.
The EIRS stressed that penalties for non-compliance remain in force and warned that defaulting employers would face sanctions in accordance with Sections 127 and 101 of the NTAA.
The service urged employers to take advantage of the extended deadline to regularise their filings and avoid penalties.
For further clarification or technical support, the EIRS said its helplines are available on 08168091243 and 08130970146.
