Abuja: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has urged officers and soldiers of the Nigerian Army to remain steadfast, united and professional as Christians celebrate Easter.

Shaibu made the call in his 2026 Easter goodwill message to personnel and their families, describing the season as one of sacrifice, hope and spiritual renewal.

He said the lessons of Easter strongly align with the military profession, emphasising resilience, perseverance and commitment to duty in the face of challenges.

The COAS noted that the 2026 Easter celebration was unique as the Lenten season coincided with the Muslim Ramadan, highlighting unity and shared purpose within the Army.

He commended troops for their unwavering commitment and professionalism in safeguarding the nation’s sovereignty and maintaining peace across various theatres of operations.

Shaibu said the year had already recorded significant operational gains, attributing the successes to the dedication and resolve of personnel.

He paid tribute to troops deployed across the country, noting that many were celebrating the season away from their families while remaining vigilant in defence of the nation.

The army chief also honoured fallen heroes who paid the supreme price, assuring that their sacrifices would never be forgotten and that the welfare of their families remained a priority.

He reiterated his commitment to improving the welfare, living conditions and professional development of officers and soldiers.

Shaibu urged personnel to uphold the highest standards of integrity, accountability and respect for the rule of law in all operations.

He emphasised the importance of synergy among the Armed Forces and other security agencies in addressing security challenges and sustaining national stability.

The COAS appreciated the support of the Commander-in-Chief, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his leadership and commitment to strengthening the Armed Forces.

He also acknowledged the role of military families, describing them as critical to sustaining troop morale through their sacrifices and support.

Shaibu called on personnel to embrace the spirit of renewal associated with Easter and rededicate themselves to service, discipline and operational excellence.

He wished all officers, soldiers and their families a peaceful and fulfilling Easter celebration.
