Market women across Edo State have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, while reaffirming their unwavering support for Governor Monday Okpebholo, citing his administration’s commitment to market development, infrastructure renewal, and the welfare of traders.
The endorsement was announced on during a courtesy visit by market leaders to the Coordinator Office of the First Lady Edo State, Mrs. Edesili Okpebholo Anani, at Government House, Benin City.
Speaking during the meeting, Mrs. Anani described market women as indispensable partners in the socio-economic development of the state, noting that thriving markets remain central to commerce, job creation, and community development.
She said Governor Okpebholo’s administration would continue to prioritize the transformation of markets through improved infrastructure, enhanced security, and policies that promote a peaceful and business-friendly environment.
“The Governor remains committed to creating modern, safe and accessible markets where traders can carry out their businesses without fear. Our markets are vital to the economy, and we will continue to support initiatives that improve the welfare of traders and strengthen commercial activities across Edo State,” she said.
The First Lady noted that the Special Adviser to the Governor on Market serves as a bridge between traders and the government by promoting peaceful coexistence, resolving disputes, and ensuring that the concerns of market stakeholders receive prompt attention.
She assured the market leaders that all issues affecting markets across the state would be addressed through dialogue and stakeholder engagement.
She also urged traders to maintain clean and hygienic market environments, stressing that sanitation remains critical to public health and sustainable commercial growth.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Market, Ms Julian Ikharo, formally declared the support of Edo market women for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
According to her, the movement, driven by the slogan “One Market, One Voice, One Movement,” represents the collective resolve of traders across Edo State to work together for the continued progress of the state and the success of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Our support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Monday Okpebholo is based on visible achievements and the commitment they have shown to improving the lives of ordinary Nigerians and Edo traders. We are united and ready to mobilise our members across the state in support of their leadership,” she said.
Ms Ikharo commended Governor Okpebholo for his prompt intervention following the recent fire incident at Urora Market, the ongoing renovation of Oba Market, improved security around markets, and other infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing commercial activities.
Some of the market leaders, Mrs. Florence Ekunwe , Iyeke of Oba Market, Mrs. Felicia Ikpomwosa , Iyeki of Ogiso Market, Mrs Victoria Imosie, Iyeki of Owan- East, Glory Eghareva Ogbiede, Iyeki Orhionmwon Coordinator, Mrs. Janet Igbinidu, Iyeki of Agbado, Mrs. Osaro Ohangbon Iyeki of Ewomoma Market, applauded the Governor for revitalising markets across the state.
They also commended the construction of the new bridge at Ramat Park, describing it as a landmark project that has significantly improved accessibility, eased traffic congestion, and enhanced commercial activities within the area.
The market leaders reaffirmed their unwavering support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and pledged their continued loyalty and commitment to the administration of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
