Ahead of the WAFU-B tournament in Burkina Faso, reigning Champions of the Nigeria Women Football League NWFL premiership, Edo Queens Football Club of Benin have stepped up their preparations with a two legged grade A friendly match with premier league side FC Robo of Lagos.
The first leg of the matches ended 1-0 in favour of FC Robo Queens of Lagos at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium Benin today. The return leg of the friendly with the Lagosians is scheduled to hold tomorrow, August 7,2026 at the same Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. Kick off time is 12noon.
The FC Robo friendly is one of the grade A friendlies the management of the Benin based club have lined up to help the team fine-tune their readiness for the CAF engagement.
Speaking after the match,the technical manager of Edo Queens Moses Aduku said that the friendly match is organized by the management of Edo Queens to put the team in good shape for the forthcoming WAFU- B play- off in Burkina Faso.
“The two teams will also engage each other again tomorrow( Friday August 7th) in the second leg of the match. It is good we have this kind of assessment at home. At least we have been able to see some areas of weakness and strength of our team. Some of our players who now have the opportunity to play as a result of the vacuum created by some of our best on national assignment with the Falconets ,and some new faces are being tested to see how they blend with the old players. I’m not bothered about the result but happy with the quality of Robo FC. This is really good for us at this time. We are grateful to our management for this opportunity” He said.
FC Robo top striker Ajakaye Opeyemi, scored the only goal of the game in the 20th minute of the explosive friendly.
This is the first grade A club friendly the team is playing since they started close camping programme.
The management has also line up other friendlies for the team before departing to Burkina Faso later this month for the play – off showdown.
Edo Queens have six of their best players in the national U-20 camp for the FIFA U-20 World Cup, scheduled to hold in Poland in September.
Edo Queens were champions of WAFU- B in 2024 in their first appearance and now going there for the second time in three seasons to make Edo and Nigeria proud again.
