Ibadan – Gov. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has reiterated his administration’s resolve to improve governance at all levels in the state.
Makinde said this on Friday in Ibadan while inaugurating 177 shops and road network at the Temidire market, Agodi-Gate Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 177 shops constructed by the Ibadan North-East LG Council comprises 69 lock-up shops, 108 open stalls with a parking space.
This is in addition to a new road network and a modern restaurant within the market premises.
Following the inauguration of the lock-up shops and open stalls, Makinde directed that roadside traders in the vicinity should relocate into the newly built shops at no cost to the beneficiaries.
The governor commended the the council chairman, Mr Ibrahim Akintayo, for delivering the laudable project.
He noted that the collaboration between the state and local governments in Oyo State had resulted in impactful developments.
Makinde added that the newly constructed market and vehicle park would restore the once-busy commercial hub to its former glory, providing traders and commuters with a safer and more conducive environment for business.
He urged traders and motorists to use the facilities responsibly.
In his welcome remarks, Akintayo said the projects would promote orderly transportation, stimulate commerce, create jobs, improve sanitation, provide a conducive business environment, and enhance revenue generation for the local government.
He urged transport unions, market associations, business owners, and other users of the facilities to take responsibility for maintaining cleanliness, preventing vandalism, complying with operational guidelines, and ensuring orderliness.
He appreciated Makinde for his commitment to people-oriented policies.
He noted that such policies inspired local governments to embark on projects that directly improve lives.
