With five days to go before the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, Nigeria is preparing to join the rest of the world in a historic sporting event that will make Africa the centre of the Olympic movement from October 31 to November 13.
The Games, expected to feature approximately 2,700 young athletes from across the world, will be the first Olympic event to take place on African soil, offering Nigeria and other African nations a significant platform to showcase their emerging sporting talents.
With the motto, “Africa welcomes, Dakar celebrates,” the Games represent a landmark opportunity for young athletes to compete internationally, gain valuable experience and embrace the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect.
For Nigeria, participation provides another opportunity to strengthen youth sports development pathway, expose emerging talents to elite international competition and build towards future Olympic success.
As the countdown continues, the National Sports Commission and Nigeria Olympic Committee remain focused on advancing sports development and creating opportunities for young Nigerian athletes to excel on the international stage.
