Motorists have commended the Edo State Government (EDSG) for commencing repair work on failed portions of roads in Benin metropolis to ensure safer and more motorable roads for residents.
The state government is taking advantage of the dry season to rehabilitate failed portions of roads, as the Edo State Road Maintenance Agency (EDSRMA) has mobilised personnel and equipment to carry out extensive repairs across the state.
Residents who spoke on the ongoing rehabilitation and repair works commended the determination, commitment and zeal of the government to ensure that roads across the three senatorial districts are motorable and safe for road users.
Some of the roads inspected include Federal Avenue, off Boundary Road; Ihama Road; Adesuwa Road by Boundary Road Junction; Evbhukhu-Sapele Road; and the second junction by Faith Motors, among others.
Speaking to journalists on the state government’s efforts to rehabilitate and repair failed portions of roads across the state, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of EDSRMA, Hon. Felix Ibhade, said the agency had commenced day-and-night rehabilitation work during the dry season to ensure that roads across the state remained motorable.
He said the repair work was not restricted to the GRA, adding that areas such as Siluko, Ibiwe, TV Road and Ikpoba Slope, among others, would also receive attention.
Ibhade noted that the agency received calls from residents providing information about bad roads and responded promptly to such reports.
“Any information we get on any bad road, and find it very important, we move to attend to such road to fix it.
“The agency is not restricted to Edo South Senatorial District alone but will touch all the three senatorial districts because the agency belongs to Edo people.
“The roads we have repaired since the rain subsided include the second exit gate of Government House, St. Mary Road, Federal Avenue, Boundary Road by AIG, and the second junction by Faith Motors. We are also giving attention to other roads,” he said.
Mrs. Cecelia Maduka, Christiana Noah, Felix Odigure and Mongov Asema Moses commended Gov. Monday Okpebholo for his commitment to ensuring that residents of the state enjoy good roads.
They thanked the governor for matching his words with action, noting that some of the failed portions of roads had already been repaired.
