The ravaging cult activities in Benin City and environs has become unabated just as its damaging effects on life and Property has equally become very worrisome.
In the last few months, several unscrupulous elements, belonging to different dangerous cult groups have turn every available opportunity to battle fields, killing rival cult members and setting property ablaze in attempts to revenge perceived injury and attain certain air of superiority.
A visit to some parts of Upper Sakponba and Ugbowo axis has witnessed several dead bodies believed to victims of cult attacks.
At Ekosodin, the University environment, it was agony and gnashing of teeth for the family of Okoduwa in Ekosodin Community, in Ovia North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
According to Mrs Jovita Okoduwa, some masked men, believed to be members of a murderous cult group, stormed the Okoduwa Family house in the wee hours of March 1, 2015, leaving trails of blood and devastation in the wake of their eerie visit.
It was reported that the cult members who stormed Ogbebor Street, Ekosodin Community left the atmosphere gloomy and tearful, with furniture and fittings flung about in total disarray, with innocent people running for their dear lives.
Another source, who pleaded anonymity for fear of being attacked, said the cult members had come for the head of a member of the Okoduwa family.
According to the source, the the target of the attack, Abraham Okoduwa was believed to have been deceived and forcefully initiated into the cult group against his will.
It was revealed that he was earlier given the task to murder a rival cult member to prove his loyalty to their group, a task he was reported to have declined.
This it was said infuriated members of his cult group, who gave him a deadline to carry out the task or pay dearly with his life.
It was rumoured that the visit of March 1st was in furtherance of their threat, when they stormed the family residence of Abraham Okoduwa, who unfortunately was not at home at the time.
His mother, Mrs. Jovita Okoduwa was however not so fortunate, as the irate cult boys, angered by not finding their target, transferred their aggression on her.
“They mercilessly beat her up and shot her in her arm”, the source emphasized.
Neighbours claimed they heard the angry cult boys saying that their actions were a tip of the iceberg of the fate that awaits Abraham Okoduwa, should he be caught.
There is need for urgent intervention to curtail the activities of these cult group who have become so daring and notorious in making good their threats over the years, as they are rumoured to enjoy the patronage of some very influential persons in the society.
