President Bola Tinubu will meet with the leaders of the Organised Labour on Thursday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja to further discuss a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.

The proposed meeting at the instance of the President, will have the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, and Trade Union Congress, TUC, in attendance.

It is reported that the federal government is on the verge of agreeing a new national minimum wage after protracted negotiations.

The said meeting is coming about a month after the President promised during his Democracy Day speech on June 12, 2024, to send an Executive Bill to the National Assembly on the minimum wage.

Recall that The Nigerian Government and organized labour have been at loggerheads over the implementation of a new minimum wage for workers.

While labour is demanding N250,00, the Nigerian Government had proposed N60,000 as the new national minimum wage.

The federal government had asked the labour unions to demand a more realistic and sustainable wage.

Tinubu had also directed Wale Edun, minister of finance, to present the cost implications for a new minimum wage.

Mohammed Idris, minister of information and national orientation, said the presentation would form the basis of further negotiations.
