Two members of the House of Representatives, Hon. Jallo Hussaini Mohammed representing Igabi Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, and Hon. Adamu Tanko, representing Gurara/Suleja/Tafa Federal Constituency in Niger State defected from the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, announced their defections during plenary on Tuesday, marking another shift in the National Assembly’s political dynamics.
They cited dissatisfaction with their former party’s leadership and confidence in the APC-led administration.
Their defections come amid growing political realignments as lawmakers and politicians reposition themselves ahead of future elections.
Both legislators expressed their belief that the APC offers better leadership and direction for Nigeria’s development.
Their switch followed a recent high-profile defection, as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai dumped the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing concerns over internal democracy and party leadership.
With these developments, political observers believed Nigeria’s political space is witnessing a period of intense recalibration, with parties and politicians strategizing for the road ahead.
