Benin City – Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has distanced himself from the stance of South-South governors opposing the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement released on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, Governor Okpebholo clarified that he was neither consulted nor informed about the collective position taken by the South-South Governors.

“While Governor Okpebholo acknowledges the right of other governors in the South-South geopolitical zone to take a position, he, however, dissociates himself from any statement that opposes the declaration of a State of Emergency in Rivers State by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the statement read.

Governor Okpebholo affirmed his support for President Tinubu’s decisions, emphasizing the need for lasting peace and stability in Rivers State and the South-South region.

He reiterated his confidence in President Tinubu’s leadership, noting that as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the President fully understands the issues at stake and is taking necessary steps to restore order
