… Call for unity, hope, collective renewal
Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State has extended warm Easter greetings to all residents of the state, both at home and in the diaspora, urging them to embrace the season’s spirit of renewal, unity, and shared purpose.
In a message marking the Easter celebration, the Governor described the season as a powerful reminder of the triumph of hope over despair, and of the enduring values of sacrifice, love, and compassion.
He noted that the essence of Easter resonates strongly with the character and resilience of the Edo people.
“As we celebrate this sacred season,” Governor Okpebholo said, “let us be reminded of the enduring lessons of Easter: the importance of compassion, forgiveness, and the unwavering belief in a brighter future.”
Drawing parallels between the Easter message and the collective journey of Edo State, the Governor emphasised that just as Easter represents new beginnings, his administration remains committed to steering the state toward greater progress, development, and inclusive prosperity.
He acknowledged the challenges that have tested the state’s resolve but expressed confidence in the capacity of Edo people to overcome adversity through unity and faith in one another.
The Governor also reaffirmed his administration’s dedication to good governance and sustainable development, stressing that every citizen deserves the opportunity to thrive.
“This Easter, let us rededicate ourselves to the ideals of peace, harmony, and mutual respect,” he urged.
“Let us strengthen the bonds that unite us and work together to build the Edo State of our dreams, a State where opportunity thrives, and every citizen can reach their full potential.”
Governor Okpebholo encouraged residents to spend the festive period with their families and to extend acts of kindness to those in need.
He therefore wished all citizens a joyful and peaceful Easter celebration on behalf of the Edo State Government.
Symbol of state’s rebirth under Okpebholo – APC
The Edo State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has described this year’s Easter celebration as symbolic of a new beginning for the state, calling on citizens to embrace the spirit of renewal and progress already unfolding under the leadership of Governor Monday Okpebholo.
In a press release signed by Barr. Peter Uwadiae Igbinigie, the State Publicity Secretary, on behalf of the APC Chairman, Chief Jarrett Tenebe, the party congratulated Christians in Edo State and beyond on the occasion of Easter, urging reflection on the values of love, sacrifice, and hope.
The statement by Chief Tenebe, declared: “This Easter, more than ever before, symbolizes not just spiritual rebirth, but the political and social resurrection of our dear state.
“After years of stagnation and broken promises, Edo State is rising again under the focused and people-driven leadership of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo.”
Highlighting the achievements of Governor Okpebholo within a short time in office, the party said, “From roads and infrastructure to education, health, and agriculture, the seeds of development are being planted with purpose. Governor Okpebholo is a breath of fresh air, a humble servant, not a ruler. A listener, not a dictator. A doer, not a talker.”
The APC used the occasion to call on all Edo people to come together in unity, irrespective of religion, age, or location, and to support the ongoing efforts to reposition the state.
“The era of media propaganda, failed white elephant projects, and elitist governance is over,” the statement read. “This is a new beginning. A New Edo, built on justice, inclusion, and progress, has begun.”
Wishing everyone a joyous celebration, the party prayed that the blessings of Easter bring peace, renewed hope, and lasting prosperity to all families in the state.
“The stone has been rolled away. Edo has risen. And together, we march into a brighter tomorrow,” the statement concluded.
Izedonmwen urges unity, decisive leadership in Edo
As Christians across Nigeria mark Easter Sunday, former Edo State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and public affairs analyst, Engr. Osarenren Derek Izedonmwen, has called on Nigerians to embrace the spirit of unity, compassion, and purposeful leadership in confronting the nation’s mounting challenges.
In a press statement issued on Sunday, Izedonmwen described Easter as a powerful reminder that after darkness comes light a symbol of hope, sacrifice, and renewal.
He extended warm greetings to all Nigerians, with particular emphasis on the “resilient people of Edo State,” urging them to draw strength from the enduring lessons of the season.
“Now more than ever, we must embrace love not as mere emotion, but as a principle that shapes how we lead, serve, and live,” he said, likening Nigeria’s collective strength to a broom, which can only function effectively when its strands are bound together.
Addressing pressing governance concerns, the ADC chieftain urged both federal and state authorities to prioritise the welfare and security of the people.
He insisted that any government that claims to care must make meaningful investments in healthcare, education, agriculture, and social welfare, while tackling insecurity with urgency and resolve.
Turning his appeal to the state level, Izedonmwen called on Governor Monday Okpebholo to take “urgent and decisive action” to curb the growing insecurity in Edo, especially the violence reportedly perpetrated by armed herdsmen and other non-state actors.
He warned that the crisis threatens not just lives and livelihoods, but the social fabric of communities across the state.
“Easter calls us not only to pray, but to act with compassion, with courage, and with purpose,” he stated, encouraging Nigerians everywhere to play their part, however small, in healing and rebuilding society.
He expressed optimism that the Easter season would inspire a renewed national commitment to love, unity, and service.
