No fewer than 3 passengers and an 11-years old girl have been confirmed dead and 4 other passengers hospitalized after a white police hilux van rammed into a commercial bus with passengers on March 11th 2014.
The white police hilux van belonging to Ugbekun divisional headquarters was in hot pursuit of a hit-and-run cab driver which had earlier knocked down an 11-years old girl in Arbico street off Upper Sakponba road in Benin City.
Mark Ayi, the hit-and-run cab driver was said to have knocked down an 11-years old girl in Arbico axis of Benin and was given a hot chase by policemen from Ugbekun division when suddenly the white police hilux van rammed into another commercial bus plying Ring-road-Upper Sakponba road killing 3 passengers instantly while 4 others were injured.
Angry sympathizers immediately besieged the scene of the accident with the intent to set the hilux van ablaze as frantic efforts were instantly made by officers of the Ugbekun division of the Nigerian Police to douse the tension by restoring law and order as the police assured that everything will be done to ameliorate the sufferings of the affected victms.
Meanwhile, efforts were made to rush the 4 injured passengers to the hospital for urgent medical treatment while all the 3 corpses of the passengers including the 11-years old girl were later deposited at the mortuary.
The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Police in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City said it has declared one Mark Ayi, a hit-and-run cab driver in Benin City wanted for knocking down an 11-years old girl who was later confirmed dead.
The statement urged members of the public with any useful information that could lead to the arrest of Mark Ayi, the fleeing hit-and-run cab driver to report at Ugbekun division of the Nigerian Police station or any nearby police station for a handsome reward.
