The Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr Cyril Adams Oshiomhole, has reaffirmed the state’s commitment to public health preparedness through stronger collaboration with the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC).
Dr Oshiomhole, who paid a courtesy visit to the NCDC Director-General in Abuja, said the engagement was part of efforts to enhance cooperation between state and federal health institutions in tackling infectious disease threats.
He praised the NCDC for its leadership during recent health emergencies, including the COVID-19 pandemic, Lassa fever, diphtheria, mpox, and dengue fever.
According to him, the agency’s swift interventions have saved lives and restored confidence in Nigeria’s health system.
The commissioner stressed the need for real-time data, grassroots engagement, and inter-agency coordination in delivering effective health interventions.
He said that sustained results in epidemic control require partnerships beyond government, drawing in civil society, traditional leaders, and healthcare providers.
Dr Oshiomhole also commended the NCDC’s evidence-based approach to public health governance, describing it as a model for other African countries. He assured that Edo State would continue to align with national strategies to build a resilient and inclusive healthcare system.
The visit, he said, reflects a shared vision for a safer and healthier Nigeria, particularly in the face of emerging health challenges.
