The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has granted approval for the commencement of domestic flight operations by Enugu Air, marking a significant milestone in Nigeria’s aviation sector.

According to a statement by the NCAA’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, the airline was officially inaugurated on July 7, 2025, in a ceremony attended by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and the Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah.

Enugu Air began operations with three Embraer 170 aircraft, each with a seating capacity of about 76 passengers.

The airline’s initial operations are being conducted through a strategic partnership with XEJet, pending the completion of Enugu Air’s own Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process.

The NCAA stated that XEJet had undergone a full variation process to include the Embraer E170 aircraft in its operational specifications, in compliance with the authority’s five-phase certification procedure.

The arrangement allows XEJet to operate scheduled commercial flights on behalf of Enugu Air under the existing regulatory framework.

Ticket bookings are being handled through XEJet’s platform, which is accessible via a redirect from Enugu Air’s official website.

The aviation regulator explained that this interim arrangement aligns with the Minister’s 5-Point Agenda, which includes support for indigenous airlines, improved ease of doing business, and deeper sector reforms.

“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority approves the commencement of domestic flight operations by Enugu Air, in line with the Minister’s agenda to foster the growth of indigenous airlines,” the statement read.

The authority also reiterated its commitment to ensuring high standards of safety, security, and consumer protection while promoting a competitive and dynamic aviation sector.
