Vice President Kashim Shettima on Monday paid a condolence visit to Aisha Buhari, widow of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, and other family members in London, United Kingdom.
Shettima’s visit was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s directive following the announcement of Buhari’s death on Sunday at about 4:30 p.m. in a London hospital.
The vice president, who arrived in the UK alongside the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, was received by Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, and Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum.
President Tinubu had earlier directed that Buhari’s remains be brought back to Nigeria for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Buhari will be laid to rest on Tuesday in Daura, his hometown in Katsina State.
The late president served as Nigeria’s democratically elected leader from 2015 to 2023, following an earlier stint as military Head of State between 1984 and 1985.
In honour of the former leader, President Tinubu ordered that flags be flown at half-mast across the country.
