ABUJA — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise will commence on August 18, 2025, across 811 centres in the country.
The centres comprise the 774 Local Government Areas in the the 37 States and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) offices, the Commission disclosed in a statement following its weekly meeting held Thursday in Abuja.
The exercise will hold from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Mondays through Fridays, excluding public holidays, and will run for one year, ending August 30, 2026.
While online pre-registration begins August 18, in-person registration at designated centres will commence a week later, on August 25.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mr. Sam Olumekun, said the Commission has also activated a live CVR Locator tool via https://cvr.inecnigeria.org/locator to help registrants find the nearest registration centre. The tool will be live from August 17.
He added that a comprehensive 38-page document listing the addresses of all 811 in-person registration centres has been uploaded to INEC’s official platforms, alongside state-specific help-desk numbers for further enquiries.
According to Olumekun, the registration procedure remains unchanged from the 2022 CVR, and additional guidelines, including instructional videos, will be released next week.
Meanwhile, the Commission has received eight new letters of intent from groups seeking registration as political parties, bringing the total number of applications to 151.
Details of the latest requests, including proposed names, acronyms, logos, and interim leadership, are now available on INEC’s website.
Olumekun also confirmed that the party registration portal has been activated and screening of eligible groups is ongoing.
Further updates will follow the conduct of 16 bye-elections scheduled for August 16 in 12 states.
