BENIN CITY: The Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch, Idemudia Iredia-Osifo, has called on lawyers to reject sharp practices and uphold the prestige of the profession.

He made the appeal on Wednesday during a sensitization programme on the Legal Practitioners Remuneration Order 2023 and the official launch of the branch seals in Benin.

Iredia-Osifo described the Remuneration Order 2023 as the beginning of a rewarding era for the Bar, stressing that it transcended money matters by establishing a lasting symbol of professional dignity.

He urged members to serve as ambassadors of the new order, engaging clients transparently and confidently.

He warned that those persisting in dubious practices risk losing their professional title.

The chairman emphasised that the NBA Benin Branch would no longer tolerate pittance or roguery, insisting that members must uphold the dignity of the legal profession.

He said sensitization would continue, both for members and the public, to ensure wide understanding of the new regime.

Despite challenges ahead, he expressed confidence that most members would align with the reforms to collectively improve the welfare of lawyers.

He described the launch of the Remuneration Order and branch seals as a fresh beginning, with “collective greatness within reach.”
