The Edo State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Monday vowed to fish out the killers of eight of its operatives in Okpella, Etsako East Local Government Area.
The operatives, attached to the BUA Cement Factory, were killed last Friday by suspected kidnappers while providing security cover for Chinese expatriates working at the company.
The team was said to be returning from the company’s site around 10 p.m. when they were ambushed by the gunmen. One of the five Chinese expatriates was abducted during the attack.
Reacting to the development, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Efosa Ogbebor, said that investigation into the matter was ongoing, adding that the Corps’ National Headquarters had taken over the burial arrangements and welfare of the victims’ families.
“The National Headquarters has taken over the case. Investigation is still ongoing and our men are out there combing the forests because those men must be brought to book.
“The Corps is not taking it lightly in any way; those responsible must and will be brought to justice. There is no hiding place for them, and we are conducting the operation in collaboration with other security agencies,” he said.
Ogbebor added that communication had been established with the families of the slain operatives by the Corps Headquarters, while their welfare was being handled at the national level.
On the kidnapped expatriate, he explained that he was not aware of any contact with the abductors yet but assured that efforts were underway to rescue him.
