The Delta State Government has dismissed reports of a rift among members of the State Executive Council, describing them as false and a calculated attempt to distract the administration from its development agenda.

Briefing journalists in Asaba, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, said insinuations of a quarrel among commissioners were fabricated by critics unable to fault Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s performance.

“Since they cannot attack the governor on performance, they resort to falsehood,” Aniagwu said.

“There was no fight between commissioners, and nobody in the government has blamed the administration for anything. These stories are baseless and never happened.”

He maintained that the government has continued to focus on projects and empowerment programmes despite the distractions.

He listed initiatives such as the RYSA programme under the Ministry of Youths, the MORE Biz-Up initiative, the Women Empowerment Scheme, ICT training, and girl-child support projects as part of government’s interventions to cushion economic hardship and create opportunities for citizens.

Aniagwu also highlighted the recently launched widows’ welfare scheme, which provides ₦15,000 monthly stipends with health insurance coverage to 10,000 beneficiaries.

At the commencement of the programme, each widow received ₦45,000 representing three months’ arrears.

He further assured that more empowerment programmes would roll out from October as the rains recede, enabling the government to channel funds into ventures that will stimulate the local economy and improve the state’s GDP.

On infrastructure, Aniagwu pointed to major projects including the ₦59.7 billion Uromi Junction Flyover in Agbor, the ₦39.3 billion Otovwodo Junction Flyover in Ughelli, the ₦35 billion Effurun-Sapele Road dualisation, and several supplementary road interventions across the state.

According to him, road projects in Warri, Abraka, and Asaba, as well as rehabilitation of schools, are being executed based on needs assessments to ensure accountability and value for money.

Aniagwu reaffirmed that the Oborevwori administration remains committed to delivering on its MORE Agenda, stressing that it will not be distracted by “discordant voices” intent on misleading the public.
