BENIN CITY – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have commended the infrastructural transformation drive of Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, particularly the construction of the state’s first-ever flyover bridge at Ikpoba Hill, Benin City.
Tinubu, represented by the Minister of Works, Engr. Dave Umahi, described the one-kilometre flyover as a landmark project that would ease urban traffic, modernize Edo’s transport network, and redefine the skyline of the state capital.
“The quality and pace of work are impressive. This is a 24-span, one-kilometre bridge that will greatly improve vehicular movement in Benin City,” Umahi said on behalf of the President.
“Governor Okpebholo’s commitment to durable road infrastructure aligns with the APC’s progressive vision for sustainable development.”
The President hailed Okpebholo for adopting reinforced concrete technology in road construction, saying it guarantees longevity and cost-effectiveness.
“Concrete roads last 50 to 100 years. Nigeria must invest in durability rather than recurring reconstruction,” he added.
Umahi also praised the governor’s interventions on federal road corridors across the state and pledged to enforce stricter accountability measures on federal contractors to ensure timely and quality project delivery.
Governor Okpebholo, in his remarks, thanked President Tinubu for his encouragement and support, noting that his administration’s early successes were inspired by the President’s progressive ideals.
“We are succeeding because of the President’s backing. His DNA of leadership flows in us,” Okpebholo said.
“Edo’s infrastructure suffered years of neglect, but we are rebuilding with renewed zeal to restore the state’s pride.”
In an unusual show of bipartisan unity, a PDP chieftain, Segun Sowunmi, also lauded the Edo governor’s performance, describing his infrastructural strides as exemplary.
“When Edo people are happy, Nigerians are happy. Development must be pursued across all states to truly reform our nation,” Sowunmi said.
Governor Okpebholo’s infrastructural renewal programme has been widely regarded as one of the most ambitious in Edo’s recent history, signaling a new phase of transformation under his administration.
