BENIN CITY: The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Mr Monday Agbonika, has decorated 42 officers recently promoted to higher ranks across various units and formations of the command.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this to newsmen in Benin City on Wednesday.
Ikoedem said three Chief Superintendents of Police were promoted and decorated with the ranks of Assistant Commissioners of Police, while 39 Superintendents of Police were elevated to the ranks of Chief Superintendents of Police.
Congratulating the officers, she said Mr Agbonika described the promotions as well deserved and urged the beneficiaries to see their new ranks as a call to higher responsibility, discipline, professionalism and renewed commitment to service.
The police chief said promotion came with increased public trust and accountability, stressing that the officers must uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force, respect human rights and remain resolute in protecting lives and property in the state.
“The confidence reposed in you must be justified through integrity, professionalism and dedication to duty,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the newly decorated officers, Assistant Commissioner of Police Matthew Kalu expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Kayode Egbetokun, the Police Service Commission and the Edo State Police Command for the trust placed in them.
Kalu assured the police leadership that the promoted officers would justify the confidence reposed in them and discharge their responsibilities diligently.
Ikoedem explained that the decoration ceremony was followed by the command’s end-of-month conference, during which the Commissioner of Police reviewed the security situation in the state.
While assessing operational performance for the month, Mr Agbonika also issued strategic directives to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and heads of tactical units.
She added that the conference provided a platform to address emerging security challenges and outline operational priorities for the coming month, while reaffirming the command’s commitment to professionalism and effective policing.
Residents were assured of sustained efforts to maintain peace and security in Edo State
