The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has dissolved its executive committees at the state, local government and ward levels in Kano State, just as a Kano State High Court issued an interim order suspending the party’s state chairman, Mr Hashimu Suleiman-Dungurawa.

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the NNPP announced the dissolution following an emergency meeting held in Abuja.

In a statement on Friday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Ladipo Johnson, said the decision was taken in line with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.

He said the NWC had resolved to appoint caretaker committees to manage the party’s affairs in Kano State on an interim basis, adding that further directives would be communicated in due course.

Johnson thanked members who previously served on the party’s executive committees at the state, local government and ward levels, commending them for their contributions to the party’s growth in the state.

Meanwhile, a Kano State High Court, presided over by Justice Zuwaira Yusuf, issued an interim order restraining Suleiman-Dungurawa from parading himself as the NNPP chairman in the state, pending the determination of a substantive suit.

The order followed an ex parte motion filed by Mr Shuaibu Hassan and nine other applicants, all members of Gargari Ward in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The respondents in the suit are Suleiman-Dungurawa and the NNPP.

Justice Yusuf ordered that the suspension of Suleiman-Dungurawa, effected on Dec. 30, 2025, be maintained pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

“It is hereby ordered that the suspension of the first respondent shall be maintained pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit,” the judge ruled.

The court also directed that all parties maintain the status quo and adjourned the matter until Jan. 19 for hearing.

Suleiman-Dungurawa had earlier been suspended by 27 executive members of the party in Kano, following allegations that he denigrated the office of Gov. Abba Kabir-Yusuf, created divisions within the party and failed to remit party dues.

The applicants had asked the court to determine whether the disciplinary actions taken against him were in accordance with the NNPP constitution.

Meanwhile, the Kano State Executive Committee of the party has affirmed the nomination of Hon. Abdullahi Zubairu-Abiya as acting chairman of the NNPP in the state.

The party’s Assistant Legal Adviser, Mr Yusuf Mukhtar, said the appointment was consistent with the provisions of the party’s constitution.
