ABUJA: The Julius Abure-led leadership of the Labour Party has vowed to appeal the judgment of the Federal High Court, Abuja, which recognised the Caretaker Committee chaired by Sen. Nenadi Usman.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr Obiora Ifoh, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the court misinterpreted the April 4, 2025, Supreme Court judgment.

According to him, the apex court had clearly held that courts lacked jurisdiction to appoint leaders for political parties, as leadership disputes were internal affairs.

Ifoh said the party would approach the Court of Appeal once it obtained the Certified True Copy of the judgment.
“From the brief we have received so far, it is clear that the party will appeal the judgment,” he said.

He alleged that the party was denied the opportunity to respond to issues raised in a counter-affidavit before judgment was delivered.

Ifoh recalled that the Court of Appeal had earlier recognised the Abure-led National Working Committee as the party’s authentic leadership, adding that the Supreme Court never ruled that its tenure had expired.

He urged party members to remain calm, assuring them that the leadership would pursue justice through lawful means.
