The personal intervention of Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone is believed to be what eventually turned the tables for the Spanish club to sign Ademola Lookman ahead of Fenerbache.

Ademola Lookman initially chose to move to Turkish giants Fenerbache, who offered him much more money than Atletico.

But according to Tuttomercato, a contact occurred between Atalanta’s Ademola Lookman and Atletico Madrid’s coach, Diego Pablo Simeone, during which they discussed transfer terms and the possibility of Lookman choosing Madrid.

This was the second direct contact, following an initial approach to Lookman by Atletico Madrid directors on the previous day.

A further contact is scheduled for the following day to attempt to finalise the deal.

Atletico Madrid are set to make an offer of approximately five million euros per year plus bonuses, which is higher than what Inter Milan could propose during the summer session.

Over four and a half years, Ademola Lookman would earn approximately 40 million euros.

An agreement is already in place between Atalanta and Atletico Madrid for a proposal of around 40 million euros, including bonuses.

In the subsequent hours, discussions are expected to attempt to finalise the agreement with Lookman.
