ATTEH (AKOKO-EDO) — The Edo State Government, through EdoSEMA in collaboration with NEMA, has launched urgent interventions following a destructive rainstorm that hit Atteh Community last week, leaving homes damaged, families displaced, and electricity disrupted.
The storm, which struck between Monday and Tuesday, destroyed residential buildings, tore off roofs, and toppled 10 to 12 high-tension electricity poles, plunging the community into darkness.
The assessment team, led by Hon. Donald Ojemeh Okogbe, Member representing Akoko-Edo Constituency II, and EdoSEMA and NEMA officials, described the damage as “significant” but confirmed no loss of life.
“Several families have been displaced, and livelihoods disrupted. Our priority is to restore normalcy and provide relief as quickly as possible,” EdoSEMA Executive Secretary Hon. Jerry Idahosa said.
Okogbe pledged immediate action to repair electricity poles and called for state and federal support to aid the hardworking agrarian community.
He also cited the poor road network in Atteh as a major barrier to emergency response and development.
Chief Francis Daoudou, the Crown Head of Atteh Community, welcomed the swift response, stressing that improved road access remains critical.
Beyond emergency relief, Okogbe unveiled plans for a multi-purpose ICT Hub to empower youths with digital, creative, and vocational skills. The hub will include training centres, a community event space, a CBT centre, and garment and creative production facilities, offering free internet, professional trainers, and certificate courses.
As part of immediate interventions, Okogbe donated replacement electric poles and contributed one million naira towards restoring electricity. He also inspected the Atteh Primary Health Centre, pledging support for its upgrade and funding teachers for a proposed JAMB preparatory lecture centre.
Residents and community leaders praised Okogbe for combining emergency response with long-term youth development, describing the initiatives as “timely and impactful.”
