ABUJA — The President of the Africa Development Studies Centre, Victor Oluwafemi, has urged Nigeria to align electoral reforms with existing infrastructure to ensure credible elections.
Oluwafemi highlighted weak internet connectivity in rural communities and stressed that real-time result transmission must follow readiness, not rhetoric.
“Without stable electricity, universal telecom coverage, cyber-resilient systems, and uniform training, real-time transmission remains aspirational rather than operational,” he said.
He warned that premature enforcement could disenfranchise rural voters, increase cyber vulnerability, and trigger post-election litigation. Electoral reform, he said, must be treated as national infrastructure, not an election-season gimmick.
