BENIN CITY: The All Progressives Congress (APC) recorded a fresh boost in Edo State on Wednesday as Governor Monday Okpebholo received defectors from the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), declaring that the state is firmly positioned to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.
The rally, held at the Garrick Memorial Ground on Ekenwan Road, Benin City, drew party faithful and new entrants in a carnival-like atmosphere, with the defectors publicly pledging allegiance to the APC and its leadership.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Okpebholo expressed confidence in the growing strength of the party in the state, attributing the wave of defections to what he described as visible and practical development initiatives undertaken by his administration.
“I thank members of the APC for the unity we have continued to enjoy. We have a good father in President Tinubu, and we are proud of him. We are ready to deliver Edo for the APC in 2027,” he said.
Projecting ahead of the next general elections, the governor declared that the President would not need to campaign in Edo State.
“Come 2027, 2.5 million votes are assured for Tinubu. The President should come to Edo to commission projects, not to campaign. The state is secure and settled for the APC,” he stated.
He maintained that the state’s development efforts have been bolstered by federal support, noting that his administration’s achievements are evident to residents.
“What we are doing in Edo State is practical governance. The people can see the development. The support we receive from President Tinubu has strengthened our capacity to deliver,” he added.
In a remark that drew applause, Governor Okpebholo invited Arise Television anchors Oseni Rufai and Reuben Abati to visit Edo State for an inspection tour of ongoing and completed projects, saying he was confident such a visit would validate his administration’s claims.
“I invite Rufai and Abati to Edo State. I will take them round to inspect projects. After a few days, you will not only campaign but also vote for President Tinubu in 2027,” he said.
The governor also pointed out that with 31 governors currently elected on the APC platform nationwide, the party remains firmly positioned ahead of 2027, adding that further political alignments are expected in the coming months.
He concluded by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to the APC and the presidency, stating that Edo State remains politically secure for the ruling party, driven by unity within its ranks and sustained developmental efforts.
