President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the posting of 65 ambassadors to Nigeria’s foreign missions, including the country’s delegation to the United Nations.

The ambassadors—comprising 31 career diplomats and 34 non-career appointees—were earlier confirmed by the Nigerian Senate in December.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the postings form part of efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic representation across the world.

Among the non-career ambassadors are Grace Bent, posted to Togo; Ita Enang to South Africa; Reno Omokri to Mexico; Olufemi Pedro to Australia; and Lateef Kayode Are to the United States.

Others include Abdulrahman Bello Dambazau to China, Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Femi Fani-Kayode to Germany, Mahmud Yakubu to Qatar, and Isaac Folorunso Adewole to Canada.

For the career diplomatic postings, the list includes Ahmed Mohammed Monguno to Egypt, Shehu Ilu Barde to Ghana, Muhammad Saidu Dahiru to India, Bako Adamu Umar to Morocco, and Ibrahim Danlami to Kenya, among others.

According to the statement, the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Nigeria has already received agrément from the United Kingdom for Nigeria’s High Commissioner-designate, Aminu Dalhatu, while France has granted approval for Ambassador-designate Ayodele Oke.

The ministry has also conveyed the nominations of the remaining envoys to their respective host countries and requested agrément in line with diplomatic procedures.

President Tinubu further directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to immediately commence an induction programme for all ambassadors-designate and high commissioners ahead of their deployment to their respective missions
