President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Maiduguri, Borno State, describing them as desperate attempts by criminal elements seeking to spread fear among Nigerians.

In a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) handle, the President expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and sympathised with those injured in the attacks, while standing in solidarity with the people of Borno State.

Tinubu said the attacks were the “final desperate and frantic attempts” by terrorists who are under increasing pressure from the Nigerian Armed Forces and security agencies operating across different theatres of operation.

“I mourn those who lost their lives, sympathise with the injured and stand in solidarity with the people of Borno during this challenging time,” the President stated.

He commended the courage and resilience of Nigerian troops who successfully repelled coordinated attacks by terrorists on military positions in the state on Monday.

According to him, the gallant efforts of the military and the civilian task force will ultimately suppress the activities of the terrorist groups responsible for the attacks.

Tinubu also revealed that he had recently approved additional equipment and operational support for security agencies to strengthen their capacity in the ongoing fight against terrorism.

“Just last weekend, during a security meeting with leaders of security and intelligence agencies, I approved additional equipment and operational support to enhance their capabilities. This effort is already in progress,” he said.

The President further directed security chiefs to proceed to Maiduguri to take charge of the situation and coordinate the security response on the ground.

He also instructed emergency response agencies to ensure proper medical care and support for those injured during the attacks.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity, Tinubu declared that terrorists would find no safe haven anywhere in Nigeria.

“There is no place in Nigeria where terrorists will find safety. We will locate them, confront them, and completely defeat them,” he stated.

Tinubu assured Nigerians that the country would not succumb to fear, pledging continued efforts to eliminate terrorist threats and restore lasting peace and security.
