The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has uploaded more than 800 polling unit results from the Ekiti State governorship election to its Result Viewing Portal (IReV), marking a significant step in the collation process as the race for Government House enters a crucial phase.
As of 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, 846 results had been uploaded out of the 2,445 polling unit results expected across the state, representing 34.6 per cent of the total.
The online publication of results came shortly after voting ended in many polling units and electoral officials commenced the sorting and counting of ballots.
The gradual release of polling unit results on the IReV platform is expected to allow political parties, election observers and voters to independently track outcomes from across Ekiti’s 16 local government areas, strengthening confidence in the electoral process.
Data on the portal showed that Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area accounted for several of the early uploads.
Iyin I Ward recorded nine uploaded results out of 23 polling units, while Igbemo Ward also had nine of its 21 polling unit results available on the platform.
Other wards with uploaded results included Are Ward 02, where four of 10 polling unit results had been published; Igede II, four of 15; Igede III, one of 11; Afao, three of eight; Igede I, five of 15; Iworoko, three of 22; Iropora/Esure/Eyio, one of 16; Awo, three of 12; and Iyin II, six of 21.
The figures are expected to rise steadily as results from additional polling units are processed and transmitted to the commission’s portal.
Across the state, voting concluded peacefully in many polling units before 3:00 p.m., paving the way for the counting of ballots and commencement of collation.
The election, which drew voters across the state’s 16 local government areas, is being closely watched as one of the most significant off-cycle governorship contests in the country.
With collation ongoing in several local government areas, attention is now focused on the speed and consistency of result uploads, which have become a key benchmark for transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process.
INEC is expected to continue updating the portal as more polling unit results arrive from across the state.
