The Edo State Government has joined the Ihonvbere family, the people of Owan East and Owan West Local Government Areas, and Nigerians across the country to celebrate the 70th birthday anniversary of renowned academic, lawmaker and statesman, Professor Julius Ogar Ihonvbere.

Governor Monday Okpebholo, in a goodwill message, described Professor Ihonvbere as one of Edo’s finest sons, whose remarkable contributions to academia, public service and national development have brought honour and pride to the State.

The Governor noted that Professor Ihonvbere has continued to carry the flag of Edo State with distinction through his outstanding career in the academic world, his role as Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Abuja, and his continued commitment to the growth and progress of Nigeria.

According to Governor Okpebholo, Professor Ihonvbere’s life journey reflects courage, discipline and service, having transitioned from a distinguished academic career at the University of Ife and international scholarship to active participation in the defence of democratic values and nation-building.

“Your trajectory has been remarkable. From the halls of academia to international scholarship, from principled opposition to military dictatorship to dedicated service in democratic governance, your life reflects a man guided by conviction and a commitment to the greater good,” the Governor said.

Governor Okpebholo commended Professor Ihonvbere for his invaluable contributions to Edo State and Nigeria, describing him as a source of inspiration to younger generations who aspire to lives of meaningful service and impact.

“On this milestone birthday, I wish you renewed strength, good health and the grace to continue offering your wisdom and experience in the service of our people and our nation,” the Governor added.

The Governor congratulated Professor Ihonvbere on his 70th birthday anniversary, noting that Edo State remains proud of his achievements and enduring legacy.
