BENIN CITY – The Edo State Government’s Senior Special Assistant on Diaspora Matters, Amb. Osarodion Osagie, has reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening community security and advancing the global profile of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) following an honour bestowed on him by the organisation.
In a letter of appreciation, Osagie expressed profound gratitude to the leadership and members of the VGN for the recognition, describing the honour as a demonstration of the confidence reposed in him.
He reserved special appreciation for the Edo State Commandant of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria, Mr. Segun Imafidon, commending his leadership and dedication to promoting peace, public safety and community security across the state.
According to Osagie, effective security is a shared responsibility that demands collaboration among government, security agencies, community leaders and citizens.
Drawing from his years of experience in private security and investigation, he pledged to deploy his expertise towards supporting intelligence gathering, community policing initiatives, crime prevention and other measures aimed at improving public safety in Edo State and beyond.
Osagie stated that his Diaspora Office is developing innovative, technology-driven solutions to support security operations, stressing that the team believes the deployment of technology in intelligence gathering, crime prevention and community policing represents a global best practice in tackling insecurity. He noted that leveraging modern technology would complement existing security efforts, strengthen intelligence-led policing and improve the overall effectiveness of community security initiatives across Edo State.
The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo’s aide also expressed optimism about forging closer collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nigeria to enhance grassroots security and create safer communities capable of driving sustainable peace and development.
Osagie said the renewed commitment aligns with the SHINE Agenda of Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo, particularly the administration’s focus on strengthening community policing, supporting grassroots security architecture and fostering a safer environment for residents, businesses and investors. He noted that the governor’s sustained collaboration with conventional and complementary security agencies has continued to bolster public confidence, improve intelligence-driven policing and enhance the protection of lives and property across Edo State.
He added that while the administration has already recorded significant strides in improving security across the state, there remains even greater potential for expanding community-based policing, intelligence sharing and stakeholder collaboration to consolidate the gains achieved.
According to him, with the continued commitment of Governor Okpebholo, security agencies, the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and community stakeholders, Edo State is well positioned to record even greater security achievements, sustainable peace and accelerated socio-economic development under the SHINE Agenda.
Beyond security operations, Osagie said he shares the vision of projecting the Vigilante Group of Nigeria onto the global stage through strategic partnerships, the promotion of international best practices and increased recognition of the organisation’s contributions to community security and national development.
Reiterating his appreciation to the VGN leadership and members, particularly the Edo State Commandant, Mr. Segun Imafidon, Osagie said he accepted the honour with humility and a renewed commitment to serve with integrity, dedication and excellence.
Speaking on the significance of the recognition, Osagie said, “I am deeply honoured by this recognition from the Vigilante Group of Nigeria. I sincerely appreciate the confidence reposed in me by the leadership and members of the organisation, and I accept this honour with humility and a profound sense of responsibility.”
He stressed the need for collective action in tackling security challenges, saying, “Security is everyone’s responsibility. Government alone cannot achieve lasting peace without the active support of security agencies, community leaders and every law-abiding citizen. It is only through collaboration that we can build safer and more secure communities.”
Highlighting his readiness to contribute, Osagie added, “With my background in private security and investigation, I am committed to supporting intelligence gathering, community policing, crime prevention and every initiative that will strengthen public safety in Edo State and across Nigeria.”
He further outlined his vision for the organisation, stating, “Beyond our local achievements, I believe the Vigilante Group of Nigeria deserves greater international recognition. I look forward to working with the leadership to foster strategic partnerships, promote global best practices and showcase the invaluable role the organisation plays in community security and national development.”
Osagie concluded by reaffirming his commitment to selfless service, saying, “This honour is not just a recognition of past efforts; it is a call to greater service. I remain committed to serving with integrity, dedication and excellence for the peace, security and development of our communities and our nation.”
He also prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the Vigilante Group of Nigeria and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
