Chairman, Edo State Internal Revenue Service, (EIRS), John Osirenimhe Odior, on Thursday called on members of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) to collaboratively help the revenue service with the tax awareness drive.
Pushing this view across during the courtesy visit by members of the CITN to the EIRS Headquarters in Benin-City, the revenue chief stated that the help of the CITN was key in information dissemination of tax policies to stakeholders and partners, to help boost efforts of Governor Monday Okpebholo and his infrastructural drive.
Odior noted that by this act, the CITN as tax collaborators would be assisting the Edo State Government achieve its social contract with the people through tax engagements, enlightenment and creating more tax awareness and other requisite tax obligations aimed at making people aware of the need to voluntarily pay tax.
Odior said the EIRS had a symbiotic relationship with the CITN on tax issues, being a beneficiary of CITN policies, which gave the need to nurture existing collaborative efforts of both organisations.
He briefed his guests about milestones and achievements by the EIRS inclusive of the recent Edo State Revenue Consolidated Account (TSA) aimed at maintaining transparency and accountability in revenue generation by Ministries, Departments andAgencies (MDAs) in Edo State.
The 17th CITN President, Innocent Chinyere Ohagua, who spoke through his Vice, Simon Kato, commended the Edo State Government through the EIRS for the great works being done in society for the Edo people which he said were backed by requisite structure, quality of delivery of infrastructure with attendant tax figures and records available for public scrutiny.
He said the taxation institute had collaborated as a team with the revenue service before now hence he pledged further support. He stated that aside the visitation to the revenue house, the CITN delegation he stated was also in Edo State for the investiture of the 9th chairman elect of the CITN, Benin and District Society.
