BENIN CITY — The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has intensified engagements with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to clarify provisions of the Edo State Revenue Consolidation Account Law, 2026, and ensure compliance with the new revenue framework.
The Executive Chairman of EIRS, Mr John Osirenimhe Odior, FCA, ACTI, made this known during separate engagements with the Managing Director of the Edo State Outdoor Advertising Agency (EDSAA), Rt. Hon. Patrick Auguinede, and the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Edo State Hospital Management Agency, Dr Nelson Tenebe.
The engagements provided an opportunity for the heads of the two agencies to seek clarification on the requirements of the new law and identify areas where they might require assistance to ensure a smooth transition.
Speaking during the meetings, Odior said the Revenue Consolidation Account Law was designed to strengthen the state’s revenue base by blocking leakages and improving transparency and accountability in revenue administration.
He explained that proper accounting and reporting of internally generated revenue would also enhance Edo State’s reputation and credibility before national and international institutions.
Highlighting provisions of the law, the EIRS chairman stated that no MDA was authorised to engage revenue consultants, undertake enforcement activities or establish mobile courts without the approval of the revenue service.
He stressed the need for heads of government agencies to understand their responsibilities under the new framework and ensure that their operations complied with its provisions.
Odior assured the agency heads that the implementation of the law would benefit both government institutions and residents through improved working conditions, better operational tools and enhanced public service delivery.
He urged all MDAs to comply with existing tax laws and the Revenue Consolidation Account Law within the stipulated timelines to avoid government sanctions.
The EIRS chairman reiterated the agency’s commitment to sustained dialogue and collaboration with MDAs to address operational concerns and facilitate the effective implementation of the new revenue system.
The engagements form part of the revenue service’s ongoing efforts to promote compliance, strengthen coordination among government institutions and improve revenue administration across Edo State.
