September 4, 2026 will go down in the annals of Lions International Nigeria as a date to remember for good. It was the occasion of the historic Presentation Ceremony of Lion Phina Nwando Origho, PMJF, as the Pioneer District Governor of District 404-B5.
It was nothing short of fun-filled and memorable.
The biggest humanitarian club in Multiple District 404, the Ikeja Model Virtual Lions Club, was not left out of the activities that heralded the presentation. With the theme “Service, Sand and Smiles”, the club staged a robust service activity at Atican Beach, Lekki, Lagos.
Members stormed the Okun-Ajah Community on a community outreach to sensitize residents on Paediatric Cancer, Diabetes and Mental Health Awareness. The team shared handbills on the club’s service activities and invited community members for free medical screening. The response was overwhelming, with close to one hundred beneficiaries screened, counselled and referred for further medical attention where necessary.
The Ikeja Model Virtual Lions Club, with close to ninety members and still counting, once again proved that it is a big name in humanitarian service. True to its motto, it brought smiles and hope to the people of Okun-Ajah Community.
The services rendered included free blood pressure checks, blood sugar checks, diabetes awareness, mental health awareness and other health interventions. There was an insightful talk on Paediatric Cancer by Lion Joy Efejuku, while Lion Faith Johnson, Club Administrator, delivered a talk on diabetes and gave the opening remarks on behalf of Lion Grace Quick, the Pioneer President of the club. Earlier, Lion Olore Imokhe, leader and Treasurer of the club, sensitized beneficiaries on mental health and declared the screening session open. It was indeed Service Beyond Boundaries.
AND THEN CAME THE ENJOYMENT
After the service activity, members headed straight to the beach for relaxation. It was all about fun, bonding and celebration. Tasty meals and drinks were readily available and members enjoyed themselves to the fullest.
One special highlight of the day was the novelty football match between the Male Lions and the Female Lions. When the match started, the Male Lions thought they could intimidate the Female Lions with strength, but the women had other plans. Before long, the Female Lions netted a goal and defended it gallantly. At the final whistle, the Female Lions won by one goal to nothing. History was made, and there was jubilation everywhere.
THE GRAND CLIMAX: DG PRESENTATION
The grand climax was the Presentation Ceremony of District Governor Phina Origho. District 404-B5 truly knows how to celebrate excellence and good leadership. The event was colourful, well-organized and full of love.
District Governor Phina and her amazing team were superb. DG Phina displayed motherly love, humility and uncommon commitment. During and after the service activity, the District Governor, the First Vice District Governor and the Second Vice District Governor were all present to unwind with members. The photo sessions spoke loudly of a District in good health, led by selfless, accessible and easy-going leaders. District 404-B5 is indeed lit.
The hospitality was massive and delicacies went round every table. It was a perfect blend of service and joy.
Another highpoint was the fundraising during the presentation ceremony. The Ikeja Model Virtual Lions Club participated actively and made a whopping donation of over One Million Naira to the District Governor’s project. It was unprecedented for a new club in a Pioneer District.
It was truly Service Beyond Boundaries.
