The Commissioner for Art, Culture and Creative Economy Hon Chris Okaeben has challenged security agencies in the State to restore law and order at the Ring road.
Okaeben threw the challenge at the security agencies in the State in preparation for the celebration of the 10th coronation anniversary of His Royal Majesty (HRM), Omo N’ Oba N’ Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin Kingdom.
The Commissioner in a chat with newsmen in Benin City said a lot of indiscriminate activities are taking place at the City Center near the Palace of the Oba of Benin, noting that it’s time for security agencies in the State to step in and restore order.
He noted that Nigeria must not degenerate to a level where security agencies are guarded on what to do or taught how to do their jobs.
Okaeben called on the press, stakeholders and security agencies to collaborate and bring to an end the illegal activities of drivers and traders who engaged in illegal and indiscriminate activities at the City Center.
“As we plan the celebration of the anniversary of the coronation of our Royal father, I urge the press to join hands with the relevant security agencies to fight and checkmate the illegal activities of both drivers and traders at the King’s Square in Ring road.
“illegal activities like trading, picking and dropping off passengers indiscriminately around the King’s Square especially close to the CBN branch is not acceptable. These people are bold with these activities because some people may be allegedly collecting money from them”.
The Commissioner threatened to take up the challenge of clearing the Ring road and restoring order if the security agencies in the State fails in their responsibilities especially as the State prepares to celebrate the 10th coronation anniversary of the Oba of Benin.
“We must revive our values as we celebrate 10th coronation anniversary of our Oba. Visitors will come from far and near to join in the celebration and it will not be good for the image of the State if such indiscriminate activities continued at the City Center”.
