Bendel Insurance Football Club suffered their heaviest defeat of the season on Sunday, losing 3-0 to Abia Warriors in Matchday Six of the 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).
Ikoi Ettah opened the scoring for the Warriors in the 16th minute, heading home a well-delivered cross from Effimi Nsi.
Nsi turned provider again in the 23rd minute, delivering another excellent cross for Emeka Obioma, who headed home to double Abia Warriors’ advantage.
Obioma completed his brace in the 40th minute, putting the hosts 3-0 ahead and sending them into the halftime break with a commanding lead at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba.
Insurance head coach Kennedy Boboye made changes at the start of the second half, introducing Terdoo Shimangande, Emmanuel Dung and Henry Onyia for Stanley Okorom, Chinedu Nwosu and Fatai Abdullahi.
Kayode Oke and Efe Ubiomo were also brought on as the Benin Arsenals sought to stabilise their formation and prevent further damage.
Despite the changes, Insurance could not find a way back into the game and were forced to settle for a heavy defeat.
The result means Bendel Insurance have now lost all three of their away fixtures this season. The Benin Arsenals remain fifth on the NPFL table with nine points.
Bendel Insurance will now look to put the defeat behind them when they welcome FC Barau on Matchday Seven at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, on Sunday, October 4.
