Nigeria welcome Tanzania to Uyo on November 11 with the return leg in East Africa four days later as the Super Eagles battle to get their qualification campaign back on track after the massive setback in Guinea Bissau.
Our reporter learnt that Eric Chelle is far from comfortable that despite a gentleman’s agreement over a new contract, he has yet to sign the dotted lines.
“He hopes he can finally sign the new contract before the matches against Tanzania,” a source told SCORENigeria
“He is not in a great position at the moment without this new deal.”
The sudden resignation of the entire NFF executive committee last month has delayed the coach signing a new contract.
It may now be left to the NFF secretariat and the NSC to give him this new deal in the absence of an NFF board.
His current contract that pays him $50,000 a month will run out in January 2026 with an option for an additional year, which may not be activated because he failed to qualify Nigeria to the 2026 World Cup and did not reach the final of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
However, both the NFF and the National Sports Commission (NSC) recently met and agreed on an improved deal for the former Mali coach.
The new contract will see Eric Chelle pocket $75,000 a month and he will be in charge of both the Super Eagles and the Olympic team until August 2028.
