WARRI (Delta) – Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta State has commissioned the Warri-Effurun Flyover constructed over the busy Effurun Roundabout in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state
The four-lane flyover, with both sides of the dual-carriageway measuring approximately one kilometer, was constructed at a cost of about N4.1 billion.
The Effurun Roundabout serves as an important traffic watershed especially for vehicular traffic on the Warri-Effurun-Sapele-Benin Road, the NPA-DSC Expressway as well as the Effurun-Port Harcourt part of the East-West Road.
The Effurun Roundabout flyover bridge is the second of such projects to be commissioned by Dr Uduaghan led government within a space of about two weeks.
The first being the N3.5 billion Summit Round/Inter-Bau Junction Flyover Bridge in Asaba, the state capital, was commissioned earlier by the governor.
Performing the official launching during a ceremony on the bridge on Friday, Uduaghan noted that the promise of his administration to finish strong was not a fluke as the people had witnessed numerous state government projects commissioned across the state especially in the last few weeks.
He assured that many more projects would be commissioned between now and when he hands over to the Governor-elect, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa on May 29, 2015.
The obviously elated governor noted that the he was extremely delighted that he would be leaving behind a more peaceful state than he met as Governor of Delta State.
He noted that Peace and Security formed part of the three-pronged development agenda of government on assuming office in May, 2007, saying the attainment of that objective would remain one of the most cherished achievements of his eight-year government.
Peace is a prerequisite for the attainment of the other two legs of the development tripod, namely Human Capital Development and Infrastructure Development, he stressed.
While going down memory lane to remind the people of the rough times and stagnation of meaningful development caused by series of communal crisis and violence, Uduaghan thanked all Delta State citizens who encouraged the prevailing atmosphere of peace today across the state.
He also thanked the people for voting Dr Okowa, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as his successor and remaining peaceful during and after the governorship and state assembly
Uduaghan further urged the people to “support the in-coming administration of Senator Okowa, to pray for him, to assist him to succeed; because that is the icing on the cake of our Peace and Security Agenda in the development blueprint of this government. That anybody from any part of the state is voted as Governor and he or she is accepted by everybody from every part of the state.”
While noting that “the commissioning of flyover bridge at Effurun Roundabout has put to an end to the traffic nightmare suffered by commuters and other road users traveling within and across the state, he advised drivers on the bridge to obey all traffic regulations and avoid over-speeding on the facility.
“This flyover was constructed to help you get to your destination faster. The destination we are talking about is not mortuary, or hospital, but your homes. So please drive carefully” He said.
