PROMISES MADE BY ANY individual or government should be taken very seriously and must be fulfilled to letter for any promise and fail there is always a repercussion that follows. Nigeria as a country has not been able to measure up to standard among the comity of states today is a result of promise and fail on the part of our elected political office holders since 1999 when the democracy really started.
A lot of promises have always been made by politicians during campaign but as soon as the result is announced, they forget their promises. Instead they labour to satisfy their parents and themselves at the detriment of the people that voted them into the office.
A case study is the aftermath of the 2015 presidential election that has taken place in Nigeria where a sitting president was removed by ballot.
While I want to use this medium to salute the President of Nigeria, Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan for his uncommon courage of conceding defeat even before the end of the collation of the result. All other politicians should emulate this hero of our time.
Even through the election has come and gone the lessons learnt from the drama cannot be forgotten for a long time.
The faith of Mr. President was that of promise and fail issues. Nigerians and all citizens of Africa should learn because the power belong to the people you cannot fool all the people all the time.
The problems that have retarded the growth of the giant of Africa (Nigeria) are numerous especially since 1999. First among these is the power sector which has become a canker worm in our flesh. Since 1999, the Federal Government has been promising uncountable times that power failure would soon become a thing of the past. A better part of our oil Revenue goes into this sector and it becomes a draining pipe while power production becomes worse by the day.
The poverty and lack of job in Nigeria today is largely because of power failure. Multi- Million companies have relocated to smaller West African countries where they have stable electricity. Mr. President failed to stabilize the electricity supply after six years of continuous promise.
We can still remember the 2012 oil subsidy riot vividly. In January 2012, Dr. Goodluck promised to tackle the problem of electricity head-on and to alleviate the suffering of Nigerian but by 2015, everything remain worse as there was no electricity, fuel is still imported while the level of unemployment is as high as 80 % Nigerians are suffering in foreign land
Instead of building new refineries and bring up the old ones to maximum production, Nigeria still depend on carrying our crude oil to refine in their individual refineries in foreign countries and import it back into Nigeria at a vary exorbitant price by those the president named as cabal’s. Till date those that are behind oil subsidy and those that were involved in the illicit deal have not been brought to book.
Nigeria, the fifth highest oil producer in the world is the only oil producing country which her citizens cannot take one square meal a day. The prize of petrol and kerosene are also the highest. The poverty in the land had assumed undesirable proportion. A liter of petrol and kerosene had remained N110= and N150= respectively when it can be available in the filling station. The main aim of Government is to take care of the welfare of her citizen socially, economically security wise, and anything short of this, the Government has no need to be.
Since 2012 oil subsidy riot can anyone name what has change in the welfare of the ordinary Nigeria citizens?
It was because lack of employment in 2013 that led to the death of more than 100 young Nigerians died in various venue where the Nigeria immigration Authority purported to recruit officers.
SOMETIMES I USED TO WONDER THAT NIGERIAN’S PROBLEM IS SPIRITUAL BUT SINCE 2008 WHEN THE COMRADE GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE, COMRADE ADAMS OSHIOMHOLE ASSUMED OFFICE AS THE GOVERNOR OF EDO STATE, I SAW THAT THE PROBLEMS OF NIGERIA IS NOT SPIRITUAL BUT THE WILL TO FULFIL PROMISES MADE BY POLITICIANCE. EDO STATE WHICH COULD BE DESCRIBED AS A SMALL LONDON TODAY IS THE HAND WORK OF A MAN THAT MADE UP HIS MIND TO WORK WITH THE PEOPLES’ MONEY AND NOT TO AMASS WEALTH TO HIMSELF AND FAMILY. JUST WITHIN THE SIX YEARS OF ADAMS IN EDO STATE ONE CAN FIND GOOD ROADS, SCHOOLS, HOSPITALS, ELECTRICITY PROJECTS ALL OVER THE EIGHTEEN LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREAS OF THE STATE. BEFORE 2008 EDO STATE WAS A NON-GO AREA.
If the past and present Presidents of Nigeria have had the will, the economy and welfare of Nigeria and Nigerians would have been better today. The electorates that voted the present Federal Government out of office were tired of failed promises since six years ago and the repercussion is to use the P.V.C to vote the Government out. The greatest lesson here is that the in-coming Government at all levels should be aware that any failure of promise made by them during campaign will amount to their removal from office no matter whom they are or where they come from all over Nigeria. Nigerians are wiser now. The politicians buy bags of rice, salt, and cows to blind fold the electorates to vote for them. When you refuse to use the people money for the people they will vote you out.
My candid advice to the president-Elect, General Muhamadu Buhari (Retd) is to be focus and work hard to drag Nigeria out of this economic social, and security quagmire. (Your main aim should include declaring a state of emergency on power sector, build new refineries and reduce the prizes of petroleum products, visit agricultural sector and the works in these key sectors will generate employment for other teaming youths.
THE PRESIDENT-ELECT MUST BE READY TO STEP ON PEOPLES TOES IF HE IS TO HAVE ANY HEAD WAY IN THE GOVERNMENT OF NIGERIA BECAUSE CORRUPTION HAS EATEN TOO DEEP IN THE FABRIC OF THE PAST LEADERS IN ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNANCE. FOR EXAMPLE WITHOUT REVISITING THE OUT RIGHT SALES OF THE POWER SECTOR TO AFFLUENCE POLITICIANS, TO ACHIEVE STABLE ELECTRICITY SUPPLY IN NIGERIA WILL REMAIN A MIRAGE
