EX-CONVICT APPEARS AS FAKE LAWYER TO HANDLE CASE IN MAGISTRATE COURT.

Lagos – Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 47 year old man, Balogun Ayodele, an ex-convict for allegedly impersonating to be a lawyer, having appeared as a defence counsel for an accused standing trial in a Magistrate Court at Ilaro.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi who confirmed this on Thursday to journalists said the suspect appearance and presentation aroused the suspicion of the Magistrate who threw several legal questions at him but he was unable to answer any of the questions.

The Command spokesman, said the  Magistrate subsequently invited the police from Ilaro Area Command to arrest and investigate him, adding that on  interrogation, he confessed that he is never a lawyer and that he has been going to court under pretence of been a legal practitioner for quite sometime now.

Oyeyemi said, while the investigation was going on, a prison warden came to identify him as an ex-convict who just finished  serving a six months jail term on a similar offence.

The Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama has ordered that the suspect be arraigned before a court of competent jurisdiction as soon as the investigation is concluded, and  also warned that the State will not be conducive to anybody who choose crime as a way of life.
