ABUDU – (Orhionmwon, Edo State) – The much healed disagreement between the Council of Elders in Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State of the Late Chief Priest of the village of Ugo, Omokhae Moses on the basis that he (Moses) should take over the positions of the late father has forced him to run for cover.
Our Crime Reporter learnt that the custom demands that after the death of the Chief Priest, his eldest surviving son is expected to mount the position to fill the vacuum created to the deceased.
It was gathered that after the death of the Chief Priest on March 15. 2013, followed by the subsequent seven-day burial rites, the Council of Elders has sent some of its members to Omokhae Moses in the city with a view to discussing the installation arrangement with him since the position was hereditary.
Though, the ceremony was expected to commence three months after the funeral rites. Moses was said to have fled the town to an unknown destination, especially having briefed of the certain sacrifices he needed to perform before the process.
According to sources, about seven human heads, including native living things which needed to be sacrificed to the gods. This the source said apparently led to Moses fleeing to an unknown whereabouts.
This is after Moses lamentably told the elders that his Christianity background forbids such fetish and barbaric tradition which prompted his refusal to accept the offer of the chief priest position. He would also be sacrificed for taking the refusal stand according to the sources.
The situation was said to further escalate for Moses as information reaching this reporter indicated that a friend of Moses with whom he sought refuge was arrested in connection with a bank robbery incident which occurred in Benin City.
Moses whom according to the information was the driver of the vehicle in which his friend and other gangs came in with, but unknowingly that they were going to rob the bank, which led to the death of seven persons and three of them injured. Moses, Okpako and Ugiagbe escaped before three of them were declared wanted by the Nigeria police.
As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Omokhae Moses was still unknown.
