BENIN CITY-Police and local vigilante have renewed a clamp down on homosexuals in the state capital.
Two persons identified as Paul Nnamdi and Edoba Bright were allegedly caught in the act of homosexuality by local vigilante on Saturday, May 14, 2015.
The duo were thereafter handed over to the police for prosecution.
It was gathered that the suspects confessed to the crime and identified two others who also practice the same criminalised same-sex act in Benin City.
Among those alleged to be members of the gang were Anthony Iyare and Sunday Nathaniel Osaremhen, now at large.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for Edo State Police Command DSP Chidi Nwabuzor said a serious manhunt had been launched for the other suspects.
He stated that the two arrested suspects were helping officers in their investigation as video and photos of the gang activities were recovered as exhibits.
DSP Nwabuzor who declined to give further details of police investigation explained that some persons have been invited for questioning.
He assured that the fleeing Anthony Iyare and Sunday Nathaniel Osaremhen would be made to face the full wrath of the law in due course.
The police image maker revealed that since February 2014 when the former President of Nigeria, Mr Goodluck Jonathan criminalised same-sex marriage and its activities in the country, the police had made appreciable arrests, prosecutions and convictions.
He however appealed to members of the public with information about the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects to contact the nearest police station.
DSP Nwabuzor warned hoteliers and operators of recreation centres used by lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender group in Nigeria as the practice is against the culture, religion and social-economic life of Nigerians.
