BENIN CITY- Following his alleged involvement in a cult clash that claimed the lives of two persons in Benin metropolis recently, the Edo State Police Command have declared one Julius Eleh, ‘m’, an alleged member of the feared Supreme Eiye Confraternity wanted.
This is even as the police authorities disclosed that the three persons earlier arrested in connection with the cult war have been charged to court.
Addressing journalists in Benin City on behalf of the State Commissioner of Police, the Command image-maker, said that preliminary investigation revealed that the fleeing Julius Eleh, who he said is of an average height, dark in completion and has black eyes was the masterminder of deadly cult clash between the Eiye and Black Axe groups.
According to him, on interrogations, the three suspects now cooling their heads at the Benin Central Prison confessed Julius Eleh as the masterminder of the killings and leader of the Eiye cult group in the area.
“At about1500 hours on February 15, 2014, the Command got distress calls from members of the public that there was cult clash between members of the Eiye and Black Axe Confraternities at Upper Sokponba Road, Benin City, as two members of the black axe were gunned down by the Eiye cult.
“The command in swift response deployed a crack team of Anti-Cultism to the scene of crime and on getting there, three members of the Eiye gang were promptly apprehended while others including Julius and the Black Axe members escaped arrest.
“Upon interrogations, the three arrested suspects fingered Julius Eleh as not only the brain behind the cult war but also the leader of the Eiye Confraternity in Upper Sokponba Road, Benin City.
“Upon completion of investigation, the three arrested suspects were charged to court and later reminded in prison custody, while the command declared manhunt for Julius Eleh”, he said.
He called on members of the public who may have useful information that could lead to the arrest of Julius Eleh to approach any security formation in the county, assuring that such information would be treated with strict confidentiality by the police.
