ABUJA – Former Minister of State for Education, Prof Jerry Agada, has urged Nigerians to imbibe reading culture.
Agada made the call in Abuja during the launch of four books written by Acting CP Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, the Force Public Relations Officer.
The books are entitled:“ Beneath the Sagging Roof; The power of Focus; Sunset for Mr Dobromir and A Whiff of Kahara.
He said Nigerians’ dislike for reading would soon be a thing of the past “as a lot of effort is being done in trying to make sure we revive the reading culture amongst Nigerians’’.
“I remember as a minister of state for education, I launched the National Action Committee on Read Campaign and it has been going around and because of that, so many books had been written.
“What we do is to encourage book writing and you cannot be writing without having people to read them.
“So, a lot of efforts are being made to encourage people to read, and this is what Ojukwu has done. So, we say Nigerians should be reading.
“I commend the author for a job well done, writing a book is not an easy thing.
The Representative of the Inspector-General of Police, DIG Mamman Tsafe, said the book presentation indicated that there were intellectuals and academicians in the police.
“From this book presentation, you know definitely that police is highly intelligent with so many intellectuals.
The Director of Defence Information, Maj.-Gen. Chris Olukolade, said Ojukwu had given the public relations officers reason to be proud of him.
Olukolade, who is the Chairman of the Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA), said the book would be useful to all Nigerians.
Earlier, the author of the book said each of the books touched on human development, adding that all the books reflected his background.
“You become insecure if you don’t know where you are going. Each of these books reflects the life we are living and where we are going.
Ojukwu said he got inspiration by reading and observation, and that his job afforded him the opportunity to interact with people.
