BENIN CITY- Worried by the unhealthy display of consumables and other wares around Oba Ovonranmwen Square, Benin City, Edo State Capital, officials of the state Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities, yesterday embarked on “Operation Clean Up the Environment.”
The clean up Environment which was strictly on Oba Ovoranmwen Square and its adjoining streets was led by the Director Environmental Health, Ministry of Environment and Public Utilities, Prince Peter Uwagbale.
Speaking with “The NIGERIAN OBSERVER on the essence of the operation, Prince Uwagbele said “For the last two weeks, the Comrade Governor of Edo State phased out Edo Youth Empowerment Scheme (Edo-YES) with a view to restructuring the scheme and regularise the qualified ones into the state Civil Service, Oba Ovonramwen Square has been turned to refuse dumps by traders in the area.”
“As you can see, the directive affected sweepers who hitherto have been doing this job. Today every where looks unkempt by the activities of these people selling around the Oba Ovonranmwen square.
He noted “when the Comrade Governor decides to dive round for instance on inspection, you see these people running after the governor hailing him.
