Benin City – If the information reaching the press is anything to go by, the Edo 2016 gubernatorial election slated to hold on Saturday might not hold as earlier announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
This came after a Stakeholders meeting organized by INEC to brainstorm on issues as regard preparation ahead of the election .
In a consultative meeting held with Stakeholders yesterday in Benin City, the INEC Chairman Prof Mahmoud Yakubu who reiterated the commission’s preparedness to conduct the election, cited security threats as reason, disclosing that the news of the postponement of the election broke out after the stakeholders meeting.
He said he decided to call for the consultative meeting to afford stakeholders the opportunity to air their views on whether the election should be postponed or not.
He also asserted that the postponing the election may amounting to exposing the election materials, hence the need to interface with the security agencies on the way forward.
Participants who spoke maintained that the election should hold hence postponing the election will amount to incompetence of INEC.
